The Lunar Eclipse of July 16 2000

Lunar Eclipse July 16 2000: This photo was taken near the total phase of the eclipse and shows the moon deep into Earth's shadow. This photo was taken using the observatory telescope (C14). We also used a focal reducer and as such the C14 was working at F7 for those technically minded. The exposure time was 125th of a second on 400 speed colour film. This eclipse was special as the moon passed almost directly through the centre of Earth's shadow. We were certainly lucky that the clouds and rain cleared just in time to see and photograph this rare event.
